Young Bram the reindeer cannot understand why his nose twinkles — until his joyful laughter lights the way through a stormy night.

The Little Reindeer with the Twinkling Nose

In Santa's village at the top of the world lived a young reindeer named Bram. He had soft brown fur, clumsy hooves, and one very strange thing: whenever he was truly happy, his nose began to twinkle like a golden star. "It tickles!" Bram would giggle, wiggling his shiny nose, while the older reindeer shook their heads and muttered that a nose was for smelling, not for shining.

Bram's Big Dream

Bram dreamed of pulling Santa's sleigh one Christmas night. But every year the trainer, a stern old reindeer named Moss, chose only the biggest, strongest reindeer. "You are too small, and your nose is too silly," Moss told Bram. Bram tried to be serious. He practiced standing very still with a very solemn face. But the moment he imagined flying over the rooftops, his nose lit up like a lantern and he burst out laughing.

"See?" said Moss. "Hopeless." That night, Bram sat in the snow and wished his nose would behave. Then his best friend, a chatty elf named Tilda, trotted up. "Bram," she said, "what if your nose is not a problem? What if it is a gift nobody has unwrapped yet?"

The Storm on Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve, a wild snowstorm swept over the village. The clouds were thick as wool, and even the moon was lost. Santa looked worried. "I cannot see a single rooftop," he said. "Who will light our way?" Just then, little Bram stepped forward, trembling. "I can try," he whispered.

They hitched Bram at the very front of the sleigh. As the bells jingled and the sleigh lifted into the storm, Bram felt the wind on his face and the joy in his heart — and his nose began to twinkle! Brighter and brighter it shone, until the whole snowy sky glowed gold around the sleigh.

Laughter Lights the Way

And then something wonderful happened. Bram saw the sleeping villages below, the twinkling windows, the stockings waiting by the chimneys — and he could not help it: he began to laugh. A big, joyful, snow-shaking laugh! Each giggle made his nose twinkle even brighter, until the storm clouds themselves seemed to sparkle.

"Faster, Bram!" Santa called, laughing too. "Your happiness is the best lantern I have ever had!" They delivered every gift that night. From then on, Bram led the sleigh whenever the sky was dark — and old Moss was the first to admit, "That silly nose is the brightest idea this village ever had."

Moral of the Story

What makes you different is often what makes you wonderful — joy shared with others can light up even the darkest night.
