The Old Lighthouse and the Little Boat
A little boat lost in the fog is guided home by the warm light of an old lighthouse.
Far out on the rolling sea, a thick fog rolled in one gray evening. Little Boat, with his white sail and tiny brass bell, could not see a thing. The waves rocked him this way and that. He felt very small and very lost, and his bell rang a sad, lonely ding.
The seagulls had flown home. The dolphins had swum away. Little Boat was all alone on the big gray sea. He wished he had listened when the old sailor said, Never sail out when the fog is coming, little one. Now all he could do was drift and hope.
Lost in the Fog
Little Boat tried to remember the way home, but the fog was like a big gray blanket over everything. He called out, Hello? Is anyone there? Only the waves answered. He was starting to feel frightened when, through the fog, he saw a faint warm glow in the distance.
A Friendly Beam
It was the old lighthouse! Tall and steady on the rocky shore, it turned its bright beam slowly across the water, looking for Little Boat. This way, little one, the lighthouse seemed to say. Little Boat followed the beam of light, feeling braver with every splash of the waves.
The beam swept past, then came around again, always pointing the same way. Little Boat understood: the lighthouse was showing him the path. He turned his little rudder and followed the light, straight and true, through the rolling waves.
The fog began to lift as Little Boat sailed on. He could see the stars peeking through now. The old lighthouse kept its beam on him until he reached the harbor lights, just to be sure he was safe.
Home by Morning
The beam guided Little Boat all the way to the calm, safe harbor. By the time the fog lifted, the sun was rising, and Little Boat was gently tied up next to his friends. The old lighthouse gave one last happy blink. Little Boat rang his brass bell, and it sounded cheerful this time. Ding-ding-ding!
Moral of the Story
