The Little Cloud's Bedtime Rain
A tiny cloud gives the sleeping flowers a gentle bedtime rain so they can dream sweet dreams.
As the sun yawned and sank low in the sky, the big clouds puffed off to their beds behind the mountains. All except one. Little Puff was the smallest cloud in the sky, round and soft and pale gray. He watched the big clouds float away and wondered where his own bed was.
The big clouds called back, Goodnight, little one! Find your own special spot! Puff looked left and right. The sky was getting dark and quiet. A few early stars peeked out, and the moon was beginning to glow. Puff felt small and unsure.
Clouds Go Home Too
The evening breeze whispered to him, Little Puff, you are not done yet. Down in the garden, the flowers are waiting for their bedtime drink. Puff looked down. The roses and daisies were closing their petals, ready for sleep. They needed a gentle rain before dreaming.
A Tiny Job for a Tiny Cloud
Little Puff floated down closer, closer, closer, until he hung just above the garden. Then he gave the tiniest, softest shake of his fluffy body. Pat-pat-pat. A sprinkle of warm rain drops fell like baby tears, kissing every flower goodnight. The flowers sighed with happiness and tucked in their petals.
The roses opened their petals just a little to catch the drops. Thank you, little cloud, they whispered in their flower voices. The daisies nodded their sleepy heads. Even the tiny tulips stretched taller, drinking in the cool rain.
High above, the moon peeked out from behind a star and smiled at the little cloud. Well done, Puff, she whispered. The garden is sleeping happily because of you.
Puff snuggled into his starry blanket and yawned a tiny cloud-yawn. Tomorrow he would be big and strong, just like the other clouds. But tonight, being little was enough.
Rain for the Roses
When the last drop had fallen, the garden was quiet and cool. Puff felt light and empty and wonderfully sleepy. He drifted to a cozy corner of the sky, where the moon laid a silver blanket over him. And as he closed his eyes, the roses dreamed of blooming even brighter tomorrow.
Moral of the Story
Even the smallest helper can do the kindest work, and a gentle goodnight makes everyone sleep sweeter.
