The Tiny Turtle's Big Dream

In a quiet pond at the edge of a meadow lived the tiniest turtle anyone had ever seen. Her name was Tilly, and she had one enormous dream: she wanted to see the ocean.

"The ocean is too far," said the ducks. "The ocean is too big," said the frogs. "You are too slow," said everyone. But Tilly just smiled her slow, sweet turtle smile. "Then I will walk slowly for a very long time," she said.

So one spring morning, Tilly packed a leaf sandwich, said goodbye to the pond, and took her first step. It was a very small step. Then another. Then another.

The Slow Journey

Tilly walked through tall grass that tickled her chin. She walked under flowers that rained soft petals on her shell. When she was tired, she pulled her head inside her shell and took the loveliest naps in the sunshine.

Along the way she met a ladybug who rode on her back for a whole afternoon. She met an old hedgehog who shared his berries. "Slow and steady," the hedgehog told her. "That is how the biggest dreams are carried."

Days passed. Then weeks. Tilly's little legs never stopped, not once.

One afternoon Tilly came to a wide stream. She was too small to wade across, but a big green leaf floated by, and Tilly climbed aboard. She sailed across like a tiny captain, waving at the minnows below. "Slow and steady," she sang to herself, "floats just as nicely as it walks."

The Sound of the Sea

Then one evening, just as the sun was painting the sky pink and gold, Tilly heard something new. A soft, endless hush. Hushhh. Hushhh. She lifted her head, took three more steps, and there it was: the ocean, stretching farther than any dream.

Tilly stood very still. A wave washed gently over her toes. She laughed a tiny turtle laugh. "I made it," she whispered. "Slowly, surely, I made it."

That night she slept on the warm sand, and the waves sang her to sleep, and every wave seemed to say her name: Tilly, Tilly, Tilly.

The next morning, Tilly built a tiny sandcastle and wrote a postcard to her pond friends on a seashell: "I saw the ocean. It is bigger than every dream. Come slowly, and you will see it too." Then she paddled her toes in the waves and smiled her slow, sweet smile all day long.

Moral of the Story

Big dreams do not need fast feet. They only need a brave heart and one more step, every day.
