The Thirsty Crow and the Pot of Water

It was a very hot summer day. The sun was shining brightly in the sky. A little black crow flew all over the green field. His throat was dry, and he was very, very thirsty. "Water! Water! I need some water!" he cried.

The Pot Near the Farmhouse

At last, the crow saw a big clay pot near a farmhouse. "Oh, there must be water in it!" he said happily. He flew down and sat on the edge of the pot. But when he looked inside, his heart sank. There was only a little water at the very bottom.

The crow stretched his long neck down, but his beak could not reach the water. It was too far down. He tried again and again. He pushed his head deep into the pot, but the water was still too low.

"Oh no! What shall I do? I will die of thirst!" he said sadly. He almost gave up.

The crow had another idea. He pushed the pot with his beak and his feet, hoping to tip it over. But the pot was big and heavy. It did not move at all. "Oh, this pot is too heavy for me," he said, feeling tired. But then he looked around and saw some small stones lying on the ground near the pot.

A Clever Idea

"Ah! I have an idea!" said the crow with a smile. "If I put these stones into the pot, the water will come up higher!"

The crow picked up one stone in his beak and dropped it into the pot. Plop! He picked up another stone and dropped it in. Plop! Then another and another. One by one, he dropped the small stones into the pot. It was hard work, but the crow did not stop.

Slowly, slowly, the water began to rise. Up, up, up it came. At last, the water reached the top of the pot. The crow put his beak in and drank the cool, sweet water. "Ah! How good it tastes!" he said. He drank and drank until he was no longer thirsty.

A Happy Crow

The crow was now happy and full of water. He flew up into the sky and sang a sweet song. "Thank you, little stones!" he called down. "You helped me when I was in trouble."

On his way home, the crow met his friend, the sparrow. "Guess what I did today!" he said proudly, and told her the whole story. The sparrow listened with wide eyes. "You are so clever!" she said. "Next time I am thirsty, I will try your trick too."

The crow flew home to his nest, feeling proud and smart. He told his friends all about his clever idea, and they all cheered for him.

Moral of the Story

Little by little, hard work and a clever mind can solve any problem. Where there is a will, there is a way.
