Cinderella
A kind girl with a cruel stepmother finds magic, a royal ball, and a lost glass slipper.
Once upon a time, in a faraway land, there lived a kind and gentle girl named Cinderella. She lived with her stepmother and two stepsisters, but they were not kind at all. While they wore pretty dresses and ate sweet cakes, Cinderella swept the floors, washed the dishes, and slept by the kitchen fire. Her only friends were the little birds and mice who loved her sweet voice.
The Royal Invitation
One morning, a royal messenger rode through the town blowing his trumpet. "Hear ye! The King invites every young lady to a grand ball at the palace! The Prince will choose his bride!" The stepsisters squealed with joy and began ordering new gowns. Cinderella's heart sank. "May I go too?" she whispered. Her stepmother laughed coldly. "You? In rags? Do your chores!"
That evening, Cinderella watched the carriage carry her family away. She sat by the fireplace and cried. Suddenly, a warm light filled the kitchen, and there stood her fairy godmother, smiling. "Dry your tears, dear. You are going to that ball!" With a wave of her wand, a pumpkin became a golden coach, mice became horses, and Cinderella's rags turned into a sparkling blue gown with glass slippers. "But remember," said the fairy godmother, "the magic ends at midnight!"
The Clock Strikes Twelve
At the ball, everyone stared at the beautiful stranger. The Prince took her hand and danced only with her all evening. Cinderella was so happy that she forgot the time until she heard the clock begin to strike. "Oh no! Midnight!" She ran down the palace steps, and one glass slipper slipped off her foot. She did not stop to pick it up.
The next day, the Prince searched the whole kingdom for the owner of the glass slipper. When he came to Cinderella's house, her stepsisters pushed and squeezed, but the slipper would not fit. Then Cinderella stepped forward. "May I try?" she asked softly. The slipper slid onto her foot perfectly! Her stepmother gasped, for she knew the truth at last.
A Happy Ending
The Prince smiled and took Cinderella to the palace, where they were married in a joyful celebration. Cinderella forgave her stepmother and stepsisters, and even found kind husbands for them. From that day on, she was loved by everyone, because her kindness had never left her heart, not even on the hardest days.
A Night to Remember
The palace ballroom was the most beautiful place Cinderella had ever seen. A hundred candles glowed in crystal chandeliers, and the music floated like honey in the air. Ladies in silk gowns twirled past, but no one shone like Cinderella. Her stepsisters stared at her with open mouths, but they did not know her at all. "Who is that lovely stranger?" they whispered to each other. Cinderella smiled to herself and said nothing.
The Prince could not take his eyes off her. "May I have this dance?" he asked, bowing low. They danced the waltz, then a lively folk dance, and Cinderella laughed more than she had laughed in years. Between dances, she shared sweet cakes with the little kitchen maids, for even at a royal ball, her kind heart thought of others. The hours flew by like minutes, and the great clock began to warn of midnight.
Moral of the Story
Be kind and patient, even when life is hard. Goodness and a gentle heart are the greatest treasures of all.
