Once upon a time, a queen wished for a daughter with skin as white as snow, lips as red as a rose, and hair as black as the night. Her wish came true, and the baby was named Snow White. But the good queen soon passed away, and the king married a beautiful but proud woman who owned a magic mirror. Every day she asked, "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" And the mirror always answered, "You, my queen."

The Jealous Queen

As Snow White grew up, she became kind, gentle, and more beautiful than anyone. One day the mirror gave a different answer: "Snow White is the fairest of them all!" The queen was filled with jealousy. She ordered a huntsman to take Snow White deep into the forest and leave her there. But the huntsman had a kind heart and could not hurt her. "Run, child! Run far away and never come back!" he whispered.

Snow White ran through the dark forest until she found a tiny cottage. Inside were seven little beds, seven little chairs, and seven little plates. Tired and hungry, she ate a little from each plate and fell asleep across the tiny beds. When the seven dwarfs came home from the mines, they found her and cried, "What a lovely child!" They decided to keep her safe and let her stay.

The Poisoned Apple

The queen learned that Snow White was still alive and disguised herself as an old peddler woman. She offered Snow White a shiny red apple, but it was poisoned. After one bite, Snow White fell into a deep sleep. The dwarfs were heartbroken. They placed her in a glass coffin in the forest, where they watched over her day and night.

One day, a prince rode through the forest and saw the beautiful sleeping girl. He was so moved that he bent down and kissed her hand. In that very moment, the spell broke, and Snow White opened her eyes! The dwarfs danced with joy. The prince took Snow White to his castle, and they lived happily ever after. As for the jealous queen, she learned that pride and envy bring only sadness.

A New Home in the Forest

Snow White soon settled into life with the seven dwarfs, whose names were Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy, and Dopey. Every morning she packed their lunch pails and waved them off to the mines. Then she swept the tiny cottage, cooked vegetable soup, and sang with the bluebirds at the window. The dwarfs loved her cooking, and in the evenings they played music while Snow White danced.

"You must be careful, my dear," warned Doc every morning. "The queen is wicked, and strangers may not be kind. Do not open the door to anyone!" Snow White promised to be careful. She felt safe and happy in the little cottage, and the dwarfs loved her like a sister. But far away in her dark castle, the jealous queen was staring into her magic mirror, and her anger was growing stronger every day.

Moral of the Story

Jealousy hurts the jealous one most of all. A kind heart and true friends are worth more than beauty.
