Long ago, a king and queen had a beautiful baby girl, and they held a grand feast to celebrate. They invited everyone in the kingdom, including the good fairies. Each fairy gave the princess a gift: beauty, kindness, a sweet voice, and a gentle heart. But one wicked fairy had not been invited, and she arrived in anger. "On her sixteenth birthday," she cried, "the princess shall prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die!"

The Kind Fairy's Gift

One good fairy still had her gift to give. She stepped forward and said softly, "I cannot undo the spell, but I can soften it. The princess shall not die — she shall only fall into a deep sleep of a hundred years, until she is awakened." The king ordered every spinning wheel in the kingdom to be burned, and the princess grew up happy and loved.

On her sixteenth birthday, the princess wandered into an old tower room she had never seen. There sat an old woman spinning on a strange wheel. "Come closer, dear, and try," said the woman, who was really the wicked fairy in disguise. The princess touched the spindle, pricked her finger, and fell into a deep, deep sleep. The good fairy then put the whole castle to sleep too, so the princess would not wake alone. A thick forest of thorns grew around the castle, hiding it from the world.

A Hundred Years Later

Many brave princes tried to pass through the thorns, but none could. After a hundred years, a kind and gentle prince arrived. The thorns parted before him like magic. He found the sleeping princess and, amazed by her beauty, knelt beside her. At that moment, the spell ended. The princess opened her eyes and smiled. The whole castle woke up, the cooks, the guards, even the little dog by the fire!

The prince and the princess were married with great joy, and the wicked fairy's anger was forgotten forever. They lived happily, and the kingdom was glad.

The Sleeping Castle

When the good fairy's spell fell, the whole castle drifted into dreams. The cook froze with his spoon halfway to the pot. The guards dozed where they stood, leaning on their spears. The king nodded off on his throne, and the queen's embroidery slipped from her fingers. Even the horses in the stable and the doves on the roof closed their eyes. The little kitchen cat curled up by the fire and purred in its sleep.

Outside, a wall of thorns and roses grew taller and taller until it hid the castle completely. Seasons came and went. Birds nested in the brambles, and wildflowers bloomed around the walls. Travelers told tales of a sleeping princess hidden in the forest, and many brave young men tried to hack through the thorns. But the thorns held fast, waiting for the one whose heart was truly kind.

Moral of the Story

Kindness can soften even the hardest fate. Patience and love always win in the end.
