Maryam and the Blessings of the Sanctuary
Before she was born, Maryam was dedicated by her mother to the service of Allah. This tender story tells of her peaceful childhood in the sanctuary, the miraculous food that reached her there, and the beautiful devotion that made her beloved to Allah.
Long before Maryam (may Allah be pleased with her) was born, her mother made a beautiful promise to Allah. She said that she would dedicate the child in her womb to the service of Allah, free from all other duties. She prayed that Allah would accept this gift from her, for Allah hears all and knows all. It was a promise made with a sincere and loving heart.
When the child was born, it was a girl, and her mother named her Maryam. She placed her trust in Allah and prayed for the protection of her daughter and her future children. Allah accepted Maryam with a beautiful acceptance and caused her to grow up in the best of ways, pure and blessed. From her very first days, Maryam was surrounded by the mercy of Allah.
A Child Dedicated to Allah
Maryam was placed under the care of Prophet Zakariya (peace be upon him), a righteous and gentle man who looked after her as his own daughter. He settled her in the sanctuary, a special place of worship, where she could grow up close to Allah, far from the noise and troubles of the world. There she spent her days in prayer and remembrance, her heart filling with love for her Lord.
The sanctuary became Maryam's whole world. While other children played in the streets, she found her joy in worship. She kept herself pure and devoted, and Allah watched over her with special care. Her story shows us that a life spent near Allah is the happiest life of all, even if it is a quiet one that the world does not see.
Provision From the Unseen
Something wonderful happened in that sanctuary, something that filled Zakariya with amazement. Every time he entered upon Maryam in her place of prayer, he found food and provision with her, fruits and delights that were out of season and could not have come from any market. Surprised, he asked her where it had come from, and Maryam answered with simple faith, "It is from Allah. Indeed, Allah provides for whom He wills without account."
Zakariya understood then that Allah's mercy reaches His servants in ways no one can imagine. The One who sent food to Maryam in a closed sanctuary can provide for anyone, anywhere. This miracle was a sign of Maryam's high rank with Allah, for He honors those who devote themselves to Him with blessings that others cannot see.
A Life of Devotion
As Maryam grew, her devotion grew with her. The angels themselves told her that Allah had chosen her and purified her, and had chosen her above all the women of the worlds. They asked her to be devoutly obedient to her Lord, to bow in prayer and to pray with those who pray. Maryam answered this call with her whole heart, spending long hours in worship and remembrance.
Her example lights the way for every believer. She teaches us that sincerity, modesty, and devotion are the true treasures of life. Allah does not look at our wealth or our fame; He looks at our hearts. And Maryam's heart was one of the purest hearts that ever beat. Every young reader can take her as a beautiful example of patience, gratitude, and closeness to Allah in daily life.
Lesson of the Story
The story of Maryam in the sanctuary teaches us that Allah takes special care of those who devote themselves to Him. Just as He sent provision to Maryam in a way no one expected, He provides for all who trust in Him.
It also teaches parents the beauty of dedicating their children to goodness. Maryam's mother made a sincere promise before her daughter was even born, and Allah blessed that promise beyond measure.
