Prophet Ayyub and the Gift of Patience

He lost his wealth, his health, and his children — yet Prophet Ayyub never lost his patience or his gratitude to Allah.

Prophet Ayyub had everything a person could wish for. He was wealthy, with great lands and many animals. He had a loving family and many children. He was healthy and strong. And through all of it, he was deeply grateful to Allah, always remembering that every blessing comes from Him.

Then, one by one, the blessings began to disappear. His wealth was taken. His children passed away. His health failed, and a painful illness covered his body. Soon the people around him drifted away — all except his devoted wife, who stayed by his side through everything.

Years of Trial

The trial lasted for many long years. Ayyub could barely move, yet not once did he complain against Allah. He never said, "Why me?" Instead, he remembered that Allah gives and Allah takes, and that everything belongs to Him.

His wife worked hard to support them both, and Ayyub's heart remained full of faith. When people asked how he stayed so calm, he would simply say that his Lord was the Most Merciful, and that he trusted Him completely.

The Gentle Prayer

At last, after years of suffering, Ayyub raised his hands and made a prayer so gentle and beautiful that it is recorded in the Quran: "Indeed, harm has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful."

Notice how he prayed: he did not demand, he did not complain, he did not even directly ask to be healed. He simply told Allah about his pain and praised His mercy. That was enough.

The Restoration

Allah answered the prayer of His patient servant. He commanded Ayyub: "Strike the ground with your foot." A cool spring of water gushed forth. Ayyub drank from it and washed in it — and his illness vanished as if it had never been. Allah restored his health, returned his wealth, and blessed him with a family once again — double what he had lost.

The Quran presents Ayyub as the perfect example of patience: "Indeed, We found him patient — an excellent servant. He was always turning back to Allah."

The Faithful Wife

Through all the years of hardship, one person never left Ayyub's side: his wife. While others drifted away, she worked with her own hands to feed them both, cared for him day and night, and never once complained. People mocked her for staying with a sick, poor man — but her loyalty never wavered.

Her faithfulness was part of Ayyub's story too. When Allah restored Ayyub's health and blessings, He blessed his wife as well, rewarding her patience and love. True devotion is not only for the easy days — it shines brightest in the hardest ones.

Lesson of the Story

Patience is the greatest treasure. When hardship comes, do not complain — turn to Allah with a grateful heart, and He will replace your loss with something better.
