Prophet Musa and the Parted Sea

Trapped between the sea and Pharaoh's army, the people of Prophet Musa witness one of the greatest miracles ever told.

The sound of thundering chariots grew louder behind them. Ahead of the people of Bani Israil stretched the wide, deep sea — dark water, no boats, no bridge, and no way across. Fear spread through the crowd. "What shall we do now?" the people cried. "Pharaoh's army is behind us and the sea is in front of us!"

Prophet Musa stood calm in the middle of the panic. With complete trust in Allah, he answered, "No! My Lord is with me, and He will guide me."

The Command

Then Allah commanded Musa: "Strike the sea with your staff." Musa lifted his wooden staff and struck the water — and the sea split apart. Two enormous walls of water rose on either side, towering like mountains, leaving a dry path of sand between them. The people walked through, dry and amazed, with walls of water on their left and right.

For years, Pharaoh had refused every message Musa brought. He had called himself a god and mocked the miracles. Now, as he watched the sea open, his pride blinded him. "Follow them!" he shouted to his army, and his chariots raced into the dry path behind the fleeing people.

The Waters Return

When the last of Musa's people stepped onto the far shore, Allah commanded the waters to return. The towering walls came crashing down together. Pharaoh and his entire army — his horses, his chariots, his soldiers — were swallowed by the sea that had opened for the believers just moments before.

In his final moments, Pharaoh cried out that he believed in the God of Musa. But it was too late. Faith that comes only when punishment arrives is not accepted. His body was preserved, the Quran tells us, as a warning sign for all who come after.

The Celebration

Safe on the other side, the people of Bani Israil looked back at the sea, now calm and shining in the sun. They had walked through the middle of an ocean on dry ground. Their fear had turned into gratitude, and Musa led them in thanks to Allah, who had saved them from a cruel tyrant.

From that day, they knew with their own eyes: no army, no king, and no power on earth can stand against the help of Allah. The same day that brought joy to the believers brought justice to the oppressor.

The Magicians Who Believed

Before the sea ever parted, Pharaoh had tried to humiliate Musa in front of everyone. He gathered the greatest magicians in Egypt for a contest. They threw down their ropes and staffs, and by their tricks the ropes seemed to slither like snakes.

Then Musa threw down his staff, and it became a real serpent that swallowed up all their fakes. The magicians knew at once this was no trick — it was a miracle from Allah. They fell down in prostration, declaring their faith, even as Pharaoh threatened to cut off their hands and feet. Their courage showed that truth, once seen clearly, is worth any price.

Lesson of the Story

When all doors seem closed, Allah can open a way where no way exists. True strength is not in armies but in trusting Allah, and pride always falls before truth.
